Tango Argentino - Primeros Pasos

(introductory course for complete beginners)

Argentine tango is a beautiful dance and it has attracted the attention of most major cities in the world. Even here in Malta we have a group of tango enthusiasts who are only too happy to pass on their knowledge of this addictive dance.

Lessons start at 7.30pm, and are 1:30hrs long.

Apart from these lessons, we also meet every week for our regular Milonga, and other activities. I will hold a 1 hour assisted practice before the Milonga around the time of your last lesson, specifically for your group.

Price
€40 per person / €30 for full-time students & senior citizens.
€20 for those that would like to repeat the course.

Dress - What you want, normally, casual.
Shoes - Followers (usually women) are advised to wear well supported shoes, no flip flops. Leaders (usually men) are advised against wearing long pointed shoes. Gym shoes are fine.

Dance partner No need for a fixed partner, but applying in couples makes life a little easier.

IMPORTANT: Payment can be effected on the first lesson. Please arrive a little earlier. NO refunds will be issued for missed classes.

Pricipiantes November Cycle

For those of you that are enjoying the Primeros Pasos and would like to continue, the next level would be Principiantes. If you still feel very shaky on the elements that you've done in the Primeros, you may repeat the course at half price (€20).The primeros pasos will be held on the same dates as the Principiantes but at 7.30pm. You may also take both classes in parallel so that you continue consolidating the elements of Primeros Pasos, whilst learning new elements.

To apply, please email Nathalie. It would be ideal if you try to apply in pairs - ask fellow dancers during classes, practicas or milongas, and remember that we will change partners during lessons so it does not necessarily mean that you have to remain with the same partner throughout the lesson.

1st November 2009: Tecnica Workshop

Nathalie is organising a Tecnica Workshop on Sunday 1st November for various levels split in two parts with the following details:

Part A - Refining the Ocho
6.30pm-7.45pm This workshop is open for all levels. Price 5 euros per person

Break
8.00pm-8.30pm A break in comfortable flip flops. Those of you that would like to bring tea/coffee etc may do so and have them during this half hour. No alcohol at this point.

Part B - Invisible Leading
8.30pm-9.30pm This workshop is open for those at Intermedios level and above. Price 7 euros per person.

It is strongly suggested to those at Intermedios level to take both classes. Price 10 euros per person.

Part C - Dancing
We dance until 11pm (alcohol may be consumed at this point).

It is your responsibility to apply in pairs (follower/leader or follower/follower or leader/leader). To book please email Nathalie at your earliest and specify which part you will be attending (A or B or both).

Principiantes October Cycle

Nathalie is happy to announce the start of a new Principiantes course with a different structure. Principiantes will now be set over an indefinite length of time going over different elements without classes repeating themselves. You will apply for 4 lessons at a time (one cycle) , with the idea that you stay at Principiantes level until you start feeling that they are too easy and you can cope with them well, after which you can move to the Intermedios classes. Principiantes is intended for those who have taken the Primeros Pasos at least once.

We are holding a four session Tango course in conjunction with MUSC, building upon Primeros Pasos. The course will be taught by Nathalie Mifsud.

Course Content: Sanguichito,Ocho Cortado,Cross and Giro

Who may apply: All those that have done Primeros Pasos (beginners level 1), or have done some private sessions that covered the basic steps in tango, like walking, outside walk, side step and ochos.May I remind you that anyone intending to take intermediate courses have to be fluent in this course first, since we would not be repeating but building on it.

Argentine Tango Beginners' Course May 2009

We are pleased to announce a beginners' course in Argentine Tango starting on Wednesday 20th May at 8pm, consisting of 4 sessions held every Wednesday thereafter. Lessons are one-and-a-half hours long, followed by a practice session. The cost is of 40 Euros for the whole course (30 Euros for senior citizens and full-time students). You do not need a partner, but if you do have one or encourage someone to come with you, it does simplify things for us. Cecilia Pascual Weekend Workshop in Argentine Tango in Malta

Cecilia Pascual is an Argentinian professional dancer and tango teacher. She started her professional life in classical dance, eventually turning to contemporary dance and Argentine Tango. After building her career in South America, since 2000, she started to dance and teach Argentine Tango in France and Switzerland. Cecilia travels regularly to Argentina to reach back to the roots of tango. Cecilia will be in Malta for a weekend workshop from the 22nd to the 24th May.

Beginners Level 2 Course - April / May 2009

We are be holding a four session Tango course aimed at beginners level 2. The following is the plan for the course:
Course Content:  Ocho Cortado, Sanguichito, Giro
Who may apply: All those that have done beginners level 1, or have done some private sessions that covered the basic steps in tango, like walking, outside walk, side step and ochos.
Dates:  Every Tuesday - 28th April, 5th, 12th, 19th May 2009
Time:  7.30pm – 9.00pm (pls be punctual)
Place: To be announced
Price: 30 Euros for the 4 sessions OR 10 Euros per session. Those of you who have taken this course already can retake individual sessions at 5 Euros per session or 15 Euros for the 4 sessions.

As always we need to know if you are planning to attend the course so that we balance out leaders and followers. Otherwise, we will try to balance out unpartnered people on a first-come first-serve basis. It might be the case that we will have to refuse bookings if there is a large unbalance in leaders and followers, and thus bookings will be confirmed at a later stage. These sessions are held at Nathalie's house, from 8pm - 9.30pm.
The cost for each session is €8. For those of you who have taken Level II already, the cost is €5 per session.

IMPORTANT: as always we try to have a balanced number of leaders and followers - thus email back and specify which sessions you will be attending. The above sessions are intended for all those dancers who have attended the Level 1 course or would like to polish up their steps.

Even here in little Malta we have a group of tango enthusiasts including Gordon (at present taking a tango boost in Argentina) and myself which will only be too happy to pass on our knowledge of this addictive dance. We are very pleased to see that a nice big group of people have actually inquired for this class.


HERE IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Class level: Beginner's level 1

Teachers: Nathalie and Gordon

Place: Il-Forn Wine bar , Birgu

Dates: 25th Sep, 2nd Oct, 7th Oct, 30th Oct 2008

Time: 7.30pm sharp till 9pm. (After class, you are invited to practice and socialize with other tango dancers for another 2 hours)

Price: 25 euros per person for the 4 sessions (money collected from our classes,go towards a fund with which we are able to invite foreign teachers to spice up our dancing) Claudia collects the money.

Dress: What you want, normally smart casual. Followers are advised to wear leather soled well supported shoes.


WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW:

If you are interested, please send us an e mail, if possible by the end of the week, stating your full name and mobile number in case we need to contact you urgently. Let us know, if you would like to take the class as a follower or a leader, so that we will try and match equal numbers of followers to leaders. In reality we are at the moment outnumbered by followers, so please do try to get a leader/s with you, and inform us about them (women can lead too). Note: Maestro Eric Jurissen will be in Malta giving workshops between the 16th and 19th October 2008. This will be a great opportunity for you to continue polishing up what you have learnt in Beginners Level 1 Course.

In preparation for the October 16th to 19th workshops by Maestro Eric Jurissen, we present:

Course Content: Ocho Cortado, Sanguichito, Giro and finishing off by some polishing and Musicalidad.

Dates: 22nd & 29th September, 6th and 13th October 2008

Time: 8.30pm – 10.00pm

Place: 69 St. Paul's Street Rabat (venue might change if the weather remains this warm)

Price: 30 euros per person per course. 10 euros for those who have already taken the course and wish to repeat it.

Argentine Tango Intensive Weekend Workshop

We are happy to officially announce the Argentine Tango intensive weekend workshop to be held between the 27th and 29th June 2008 at St. James Cavalier in Valletta. The teachers for this weekend workshop are Gerardo from Uruguay and Ǻsa from Sweden.

The timetable for the lessons is as follows:

Beginners (Those who have at least completed Beginners Level 1):
Friday 18:00 - 19:45
Saturday 09:30 - 12:30
Sunday 09:30 - 12:30

Intermediates (Those who have been dancing for at least 1 year):
Friday: 20:15 - 22.00
Saturday 15:30 - 18:30
Sunday 15:30 - 18:30
